Isla Holbox
ISLA HOLBOX is located 160 km north-west of Cancun, off the coast of Chiquila on the mainland. The island can be reached by boat.
Isla Holbox is a pure and untarnished island with a picturesque fishing village, dirt tracks, simple fishermen’s cottages and a central square. The island has not yet truly been discovered by tourists and has only 4 hotels, 1 disco bar and five fish restaurants. Here you can still walk along the white sandy beaches for hours, without meeting another person. No noise, few cars, a tropical mangrove swamp with fabulous birds, and the ocean on your doorstep! You can still enjoy interaction with the local population, since the island is only home to 1500 souls, who rely on the fishing industry for their daily bread. Isla Holbox is an island for nature lovers in search of peace and quiet. Guides will take you to the Yum Balam bird conservation area, where you will meet flamingos, pelicans, ibises, swim with the whale sharks (in the right season) and meet (and perhaps even swim with) the wild and free local dolphins. The wonderful nature and long white sandy beaches make this island an absolute dream!
Isla Holbox offers small-scale accommodation and a small village centre. The island has no metalled roads. The only transportation is bicycle taxis and golf carts. Also enjoy the long sandy beaches. The village centre consists of a number of small shops around the village square. The shop stocks only the essentials of life.
